Dear
WAGA Members:
On
behalf of the WAGA Board of Directors, I enthusiastically
announce, with great optimism, an alliance between the WAGA
and the Alabama Golf Association (AGA). Given the enormous
historical success of the WAGA, which you have all
contributed to, some may ask why an affiliation is necessary
at this time. While recognizing that the WAGA has prospered
in the past as an independent entity, the Board
believes that future accomplishments in Alabama women's
amateur golf, as well as men's amateur golf, will be greatly
facilitated through an association with the AGA. I think we
can all agree that the current economic environment demands
cost containment and the efficient sharing of resources.
Our ability to work under the auspices of another strong and
well established USGA entity is essential to achieving our
mission of improving golf for
the women of Alabama.
In
order to combine with the AGA in the most efficient manner
possible, the WAGA Board of Directors unanimously approved
that the WAGA shall be dissolved and that
its assets shall be distributed to, and administered by the
AGA. All Alabama Women's Championships, as well as the
Scholarship Trust Fund, will continue to be administered in
a manner similar to which you are accustomed, but now under
the auspices of the AGA. Alyson Mitchell will continue to
serve as Director of Women's Golf. As part of the
transition and streamlining process, AGA member clubs will
now be billed a single fee to cover both Men's and Women's
activities. Women who do not belong to an AGA member club can still participate in events by obtaining an
Alabama GHIN number.
Of
course, as in the past, our ultimate success will always
depend on the continued commitment of our dedicated
volunteers. We greatly appreciate your many past
contributions and encourage your future participation as a
course rater, player and or volunteer in the events
listed below.
Sincerely,

Carol
